1. Health Canada is seeking to control the marketing of unhealthy food and beverages to children
With almost 1 in 3 children 6‐17 years oldbeing overweight or obese, Health Canada has launched a Healthy Eating Strategy to supportCanadians in making healthier choices by improving the food environment. One area they are focussing on is to restrict the
marketing of unhealthy food and beverages to children.

2. Toddlers engaged in education activities at home or in their surroundings seem to be more advanced by grade 5 (when compared to their peers)
According to a study conducted by researchers at NYU Steinhardt, the early learning environment predicts children’s 5th grade skills.
Children were assessed on pre-academic and academic skills respectively and the early learning environment supports the emergence of pre-academic skills that are stable into early adolescence, and pathways generalize across ethnic/racial groups.
